Our Amazing
Story

Meet Honey, the sweetest puppy ever and my absolute soulmate! We loved, lived, and played together for 16 years. During her lifetime Honey came everywhere with me. To say she was well traveled would be an understatement, but yes, she was well traveled. Honey flew from California to Australia in the cargo hold once, has enjoyed in-cabin flights on a private jet, and numerous in cabin trips on commercial airliners. Never one to be left behind, whenever her pet carrier appeared she would excitingly get in knowing it was time to travel. Wanting to keep my best girl comfortable during travel, I would always keep a keen eye out for a patch of grass or dirt, any suitable place for her to use the bathroom one final time before entering the airport and going through security. This went on for a time. One day, we happened upon an actual pet relief area outside of the San Francisco airport. Being that that was the airport we most frequented at the time I would follow the clever paw prints along the outdoors sidewalk to the pet relief area before and after our flights. We had our routine and traveling with my pet was good. But it was about to get better… One day, after a flight and on our way to baggage claim, Honey and I walked by a pet relief area inside the airport. Surprised, we stepped in. We were like kids in a candy store! It was wonderful to see a separate room tailored just for us (that’s how we felt) and equipped with everything we needed such as artificial turf, waste bags, water station, sink, and privacy – yes, privacy. She could do her business, stretch her legs, and get refreshed without distractions. “Where have you been all my life,” I wondered, “and, are there more of you?” I did some digging (no pun intended 😉) and discovered that many airports have multiple pet relief areas both pre and post security. Mind blown! At this point, I had been travelling with Honey for a few years. So, I began to think, if I didn’t know about this, how many other pet travelers don’t know either and I began to noodle the idea of the Flying Paws App. After conducting informal as well as formal case studies I was confident that many pet travelers were unaware that they were walking right past pet relief areas inside of terminals on their way outdoors in search of a patch of grass or dirt. So really, being inspired by Honey, I moved forward with developing the Flying Paws App. Sadly, Honey crossed over the rainbow bridge during this time. She was old and tired and ready to rest. With a heavy heart but with her in mind, I toiled on. Now that some time has passed and my heart is lighter, I am thrilled to present to you the Flying Paws App. The Flying Paws App aims to make traveling with pets safe, easy, and comfortable by providing the exact location of pet relief areas pre and post security.
